Girls basketball: Aberdeen, CMW advance to finals of holiday tourneys

The C. Milton Wright girls basketball team stayed in the hunt for the championship of the Lady Miller Holiday Tournament at the Milford Mill Academy in Baltimore County with an easy win Tuesday over McDonough, 69-39. Aberdeen had an equally easy win Monday to advance to the championship of the IAABO Board 134 Holiday Tournament at Prince George's Community College.

CMW led its game Tuesday, 30-10, at the half.

Lauren Haggerty scored a team-high 11 points in the win, while Bridget Neff and Savannah Humphreys both scored 10 points for the Mustangs. Abby Smucker led CMW in rebounding with five boards.

Next up for the Mustangs is a 9 p.m. game tonight (Wednesday) with the winner of an opening-round game between Poly and Mercy.

Aberdeen rolls over Eleanor Roosevelt

The Aberdeen Eagles rolled over Eleanor Roosevelt, 58-24, in girls basketball Monday afternoon in the IAABO Board 134 Holiday Tournament at Prince George's Community College.

Brionna Jones led the Eagles in three categories, scoring 18 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and blocking two shots.

Nia Alleyne helped the winning cause with 11 points, three assists and one block. Najea Norton scored seven points for the Eagles.

Jimmia McCluskey and Erica Jones both had three rebounds for Aberdeen. Destiny Cole dished out two assists. Kierra Palmer blocked one shot.

With the victory, Aberdeen moved on to Tuesday's championship round, where at 6 p.m. the Eagles were to play the winner of the Gwynn Park - South Lakes game.
