The John Carroll Patriots battered the visiting Bel Air Bobcats, winning 11 of 14 bouts en route to a 52-17 victory in the ninth annual Battle of Bel Air wrestling dual meet Thursday night. C. Milton Wright also won a wrestling match Thursday night.
In the Battle of Bel Air, this was the third straight combined victory in the cross-town match for the Patriots, giving them a 5-4 edge in the event's nine-year history.
Friday's proceedings started with the 145-pound bout where John Carroll's George Webster pinned Bel Air's Anthony Zappanioulso at the 3:01 mark.
Chris Almony won the 152-pound bout for the Patriots, taking a 14-3 major decision over John Cross. Next up was the 160-pound event. John Carroll's Zach Donato won that bout by a pin fall at 4:26 over Bel Air's Steve Henson.
Hunter Ritter nailed down the Patriots fourth straight victory by defeating William Holder-Moore by a 7-0 decision at 170 pounds.
Bel Air's first victory of the night came at 182 pounds where Tyler Alley won by forfeit.
At 195 pounds, Daniel Kleble continued John Carroll's victory march, topping Dominic Williams in a 6-3 decision. At 220 pounds, the Patriots Raphael Oduok beat the Bobcats' Cyler Crawford in an 8-4 decision.
Bel Air's 285-pound representative, Tyler Tuohy, picked up a win by forfeit in his match.
C.J. Skokowski topped Bel Air's Gavin Rupprecht in the 106-pound match via an 8-0 major decision, and Zach Dwyer followed with another John Carroll victory, beating David Regan by pin fall at the 5:54 mark. Artie Milner won the 120-pound bout for the Patriots, taking just 30 seconds to pin Bel Air's Brady Stafford, while Steve Jernigan knocked off the Bobcats Ryan Beverage, pinning the Bel Air grappler in 4:48.
Bel Air's only non-forfeit victory came at 132 pounds where Jeff Taylor defeated Phillip Voneasy by a 16-1 technical fall.
In the event's final bout, 138-pound John Carroll wrestler Scott Strapelli wrapped up his team's victory nicely with a 17-1 technical fall victory over Cameron Watts.
Mustangs drop Bo Manor
The C. Milton Wright boys earned a road victory Thursday night, defeating the host Bo Manor Eagles, 43-32.
Starting at 160 pounds, CMW got its first victory when Phil Flynt pinned Nick Malbone at the 2:25 mark. After Doug Their won at 170 pounds via forfeit, fellow Mustang Mickey Glendon took the 182-pound bout, beating Bo Manor's Sean Statler in a 14-4 major decision.
Donte Smith won via forfeit at 195 pounds for CMW, and Ty Rochester earned the Mustangs a win at 220 pounds, pinning Luke Ford in 4:39.
Following Cody Smith's forfeit victory at 285 pounds, and Bo Manor's first win of the night, Nick DiMattia got the Mustangs back on track, defeating Preston Kist at 113 pounds with a 6-2 decision. Elliott Creamer pinned Bo Manor's Jacob Winward in the 126-pound bout, which turned out to be the Mustangs' final victory of the evening, as the Eagles won the final four bouts.
