Boys Volleyball: CMW decks Patterson Mill, while Havre de Grace shuts down North Harford

The C. Milton Wright boys volleyball side grabbed a road victory on Wednesday, dropping the host-team Patterson Mill Huskies in three straight games.

The visiting Mustangs took the first matchup 25-22, then won the second game by the relatively large margin of 25-16, and wrapped things up with a 25-19 victory in the deciding contest.

"In the second set, I was very pleased that our service game came back together after our focusing on it in practice," CMW head coach Rich Moyers said. "We felt a surge of energy rush to our side of the net. This emboldened more aggressive setting and hitting, which came from all three positions along the front row. This energy rode us into the third set, which allowed me to play some of my journeymen players, who benefited from the faster play, and seasoned guidance of my starting players on the court."

Ryan Walsh led the Mustang effort, putting up 12 kills, four assists, two aces and two digs. John Heagerty helped the winning cause with seven kills, two digs and four aces, while teammate Justin Pezzella came through with one kill, one dig and a match-high 29 assists.

Alex Abild had eight kills for the Huskies, while teammate Tyler Ostendorf led netted 13 assists and four kills. Mike Burrill and Paul Gentry had three and two kills, respectively, in the defeat.

Warriors down Hawks

The Havre de Grace Warriors kept their perfect record intact on Wednesday night with a three-game shutout of the North Harford Hawks.

Havre de Grace, which was playing as the visitor, won its games by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-22.

David Beck was once again Havre de Grace's top performer, as he came through with a 24-kill, nine-dig performance, while also notching one ace and one block. Anthony Cofranesco had five kills, two digs and a pair of aces in the victory, while Steven Ashman led the Warriors in digs with 12, and had three aces. Tyler Cook had 29 assists, three aces, two digs and one kill for Havre de Grace, while Sean Darney posted three digs. Ashman, Beck and Sebastian Pruitt each had one block.

Leading the way on North Harford's side of the net was Josh Weimann, who put up 10 kills. Alden Jones and Austin Russell each had seven kills for the Hawks, while Kevin Mackey notched five kills. Tyler Dempski led the Hawks in assists with 13, while Travis Chicnoski served up a pair of aces in the loss.
