Jarrettsville Lions happy with support

Editor:

The motto of Lions Clubs is "We serve." In order to help meet needs of our local communities and the world, the Jarrettsville Lions Club each June puts on a carnival. Funds raised help those with sight and/or hearing issues but also go to meet other needs, such as sending local children to a camp where they learn to manage their diabetes.

We want to thank The Aegis for providing unplanned, but propitious, publicity last Friday when it published, with a story on the high heat, a photo of young people rushing across Norrisville Road to get to the carnival.

We particularly want to thank residents of Harford County and surrounding areas for coming out in high numbers for six very hot, but rain-free evenings! It was an opportunity for family-friendly fun and to get that yummy funnel cake that had been dreamt about since last June.

We want to thank the Jarrett family for the continuing use of their property. We appreciate the assistance and cooperation of the county departments that issue the necessary permits. We also appreciate the reliable vendors with whom we contract to provide a multitude of rides and midway games and to offer a variety of food options. We appreciate also the easy relationships that we've developed with other vendors who provide necessities like trash control, water and restroom facilities.

We thank the Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Police, valiantly directing traffic. We also thank the Harford County Sheriff's Office for their assistance.

Most of all, I personally want to thank all of the Lions and former Lionesses who, along with friends and family members, put in many hours of hard work to bring a successful Lions carnival to Jarrettsville for the 41st year. This year called for lots of sweat (but not blood nor tears, thank goodness!). Because of all of their efforts, we will do our part in meeting needs in our community and the world because "We serve!"
