Editor,
I was able to read your article about the Cedarday Drive extension. Although I am pleased that The Aegis reported on this topic, I am disappointed that you did not take the time to speak to a few of the community members as you did with the county. Had you discussed this issue with any of the community, we could have added details to many of the areas in your reporting.
First of all, I also heard Jim McMahan explain in last week's council meeting that he has heard from a number of anonymous residents supporting the expansion. However, what should have also been reported is that this is truly a few people and many of these same people recognize that the expansion would be better suited upgrading the existing Cedar Lane.
Next, We keep hearing objections to upgrading Cedar Lane because of costs and time. So basically what we are hearing from the county executive is that safety and the quality of our children's lives is less important than time and money spent by the county.
Next, many of us have reached to Mr. Craig's office. Unless something changed as the writing of my letter, he did not even have the courtesy to return one of the many calls. I personally asked that he return my call or have someone else explain why he would not return the call. It would have been nice for Harford County to hear the fact that Mr. Craig is completely ignoring our concerns. What happens to the next area of the community that has a major issue? Is this someone that we want representing us in local government? Shouldn't the readers of The Aegis hear this fact?
Next, how do the county and the builders continue to get away with building into Bynum Run Conservatory Area? Did the government say "Just Kidding" when they made this a protected area? Interestingly, paving the existing Cedar Lane keeps further development out of Bynum Run.
Finally, it would have been nice for the readers to hear that we are not taking this "lying down" because it's just completely wrong given the options that the county wants to ignore. This is from a taxpayer, voter, homeowner and parent view.
I appreciate you taking time to read this. If you have any questions, please send me an email.
