Empty Stocking Fund passes 2012 fundraising goal

Thanks to more generous donations between last Wednesday and Saturday, The Aegis Empty Stocking Fund moved well past its 2012 fundraising goal before Christmas.

As of Sunday morning, the Empty Stocking Fund had received $84,064 in monetary donations from Harford County residents, businesses, organizations, churches and schools. This year's fundraising goal was set at $80,000.

In addition to the money received, the Empty Stocking Fund also received thousands of dollars worth of donated news toys and books. All the donations have been used to help less fortunate Harford County families, children and senior citizens during the Christmas season. This year the Empty Stocking Fund helped 360 local families with 830 children and 130 senior citizens.

The all-volunteer committee that runs the Empty Stocking Fund sent its thanks to Harford Community College employees for many beautiful toys collected at their holiday party. Compton Financial Group also donated many, many wonderful toys this past week, as did Debbie Holt and Patti Wade.

Special thanks and appreciation also go out for donations from Red Pump Elementary School PTA, $1,200; DaVita Dialysis of Old Emmorton Road, $1,000; Tommy Kanaras, Alan, Rick, Chris and everyone at Box Hill Pizzeria, $500; Alan and Brenda Weikert, $100, David K. Anderson, $100; JLR Design Consultants Inc., $250; Freedom Federal Credit Union, $142.30; Charles and Doris Van Kirk, $100; W. Bruce Grammer, $250; Sandra Hoffman, in memory of Patrick Butler, $100; and Walter and Betty Findley, $200.

"We once again thank each one you for your generous donations during this difficult year," Empty Stocking Fund Committee member Jane Brown said. "We appreciate your support."
