Harford County’s Class 1A-2A golf contingent fared much better at the Maryland State Golf Tournament in College Park on Tuesday.
Juniors Jake Nemeth of North Harford and Michael Montgomery of Patterson Mill both shot below 80 to advance to Wednesday’s final round.
Fallston, one of three teams participating from Harford, also advanced. North Harford and Patterson Mill did not.
The final round, played at the University of Maryland Golf Course, begins at 9 a.m.
Nemeth led all local players in Tuesday’s play with a round of 77, just two strokes back of the best score posted Tuesday.
Montgomery was a stroke back at 78 in leading the Huskies. Teammate Paula Moon, the District VII champ, shot 86 to miss out on advancing.
For Fallston, William Creery shot 79 to pace the Cougars, who’s team score of 340 was third best and in position to advance to the final round.
Aiding in the Fallston score were Everett Cox, 82; Michael Corona, 88; and Zach Barkhorn, 90.
Patterson Mill, 371, and North Harford, 375, were 10th and 11th, respectively in team standings.
Others playing for Patterson Mill were Samuel Sapp, 88, and Tyler Jessup, 92.
North Harford’s other players were Sarah Hendrickson, 90; Derek McManus, 103; and Wyatt Biensach, 105.
In addition, Harford Tech’s Adam Haviland also played in Tuesday’s round, shooting 88.
Perryville’s Matthew O’Neill also played and finished with a round of 90.
