The Aberdeen IronBirds got back in the win column Thursday with another solid win over the Brooklyn Cyclones.
The IronBirds (4-5) pounded out 14 hits, five for extra bases, en route to an 9-3 New York-Penn League victory at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium.
The 'Birds will go for the sweep Friday night at the stadium. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
Aberdeen, as it did Wednesday night, fell behind 1-0. The Cyclones (2-7) put together a pair of hits in the second inning to produce the run.
Aberdeen answered in the third, courtesy of Kirvin Moesquit. The speedy infielder singled, then stole second and third and scored on Garrett Copeland's groundout.
Moesquit went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and four stolen bases.
The IronBirds then broke the game open with a four-run fifth. Moesquit fueled the rally with a single and stolen base. An errant throw on the steal allowed Moesquit to reach third and he scored a short time later on a wild pitch.
Ben Breazeale doubled in Copeland with the second run and Ryan Ripken doubled in Breazeale. Ripken also scored in the inning on Jaylen Ferguson's RBI single.
The rest of the IronBirds scoring came from the long ball. Breazeale hit his first professional dinger leading off the seventh and in the very next inning, Ripken drilled his first as an IronBird, a three-run shot to left field.
Breazeale finished with three hits, three runs and two RBIs and Ripken had two hits, two runs and four RBIs. Ferguson also had two hits, an RBI and stolen base.
Max Knutson pitched two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. Starter Tobias Myers went four innings, allowing three hits, two walks and an earned run. He struck out five.
Ruben Garcia threw two scoreless innings and Joe Johnson pitched a scoreless ninth. The Cyclones did score twice in the ninth off reliever Brandon Bonilla, who failed to get anybody out. He surrendered a hit, two walks and two earned runs.
