Another miracle gift [Editorial]

There’s a miracle rising at Shucks Road Regional Park, a miracle league, that is.

The APG Federal Credit Union is the latest to support the Miracle League of Harford County, giving $15,000 to support the construction of a new baseball site in the park on the opposite side of Route 22 from Harford Community College.

The complex offers children of all abilities the chance to experience the joy that comes from playing our national pastime – baseball. Custom-designed fields create a safe place for wheelchair users or visually impaired children to play the game, including cushioned rubberized field surfaces and wheelchair accessible dugouts.

Paul Eikenberg, chairman of the APGFCU Community Involvement Committee, recently presented the donation to Tom Walls, founder of the Miracle League of Harford County. Walls and the league’s board of directors had already worked with Harford County Executive Barry Glassman to obtain the land at Shucks Road Regional Park for the new field.

The Miracle League brings joy to the lives of people who would otherwise not experience baseball. We applaud APGFCU and encourage other businesses and individuals, who can afford to, to support the Miracle League any way they can.
