Former student rep supports Carmello, Williamson, Karwacki for Harford school board [Letter]

My name is Matt Resnik and I served as the 2017-2018 student member on the board of education for Harford County Public Schools. I am writing this letter in support of the following candidacies for school board; Kathy Carmello, Al Williamson, and Sonja Karwacki.

I have gotten to know Kathryn “Kathy” Carmello over the past few months, with both helping on her campaign and talking about the issues that are currently impacting Harford County Public Schools. Kathy has an in-depth knowledge of the school system, working as it’s Legislative Liaison for 17 years. During this time she advocated on behalf of students, teachers, and the citizens of Harford County to ensure that our school system received the funds in deserved and made sure that our needs did not go unnoticed. During my time on the board I saw the value of her position, as I was frequently talking with Delegates and Senators who explained how valuable she was and the wealth of knowledge that she brought both to the school system and to Annapolis. I fully support and endorse Kathy for Board of Education District C, she is an advocate and a champion of students, teachers, and most importantly the tax payer. I hope to see her on the board of education.

I served with Al Williamson on the board of education. Al was the first member who reached out to me, the first one to sit down and have a meeting with me, and the first one who genuinely had an interest in what I had to say. Throughout that time him and I worked together, discussing the issues that were present within the school system. Al is a leader on the board, although not in title, he is the most well versed board member when it comes to dealing with the budget and issues surrounding the budget. During the one year I served with him, Al took me under his wing, encouraged me to get my real estate license(just passed the final test recently), and even signed me on as his campaign manager. Al’s support for students and teachers is unwavering. He is being supported by Delegates Kathy Szeliga, Teresa Reilly, and Senate candidate Jason Gallion. I like the esteemed members of the Maryland General Assembly above would like to see Al return to the board for another 4 years, representing not just the voters of District D but for all of Harford County.

Finally, Ms. Sonja Karwacki I have also gotten to know very well over the past year. Her 25 years as a teacher and administrator in Baltimore County Public Schools has astonished me. The knowledge that she has of the education field is matched only by that of Mrs. Kathy Carmello. Her drive to make sure that every student has the opportunity to grown and succeed is not the only thing that makes her stand out. Ms. Karwacki has handled multi-million dollar budgets, she has seen first hand the problems a school system faces on a day to day basis, and is the perfect person to be on the school board. I strongly believe that people like Ms. Karwacki who have students at heart will truly do what is best for the school system. I fully endorse and support Ms. Karwacki for Board of Education District F.

The three people above are those that are needed on the school board if the people of Harford County want things to change for the better for our schools, our teachers, our students.
