'Faithful Pathways to Recovery' being offered by St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Aberdeen starting Jan. 7 [Letter]

The Aegis

The congregation and pastor at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Aberdeen are starting a new worship series to reduce and reverse the problem of drug and alcohol addiction.

"Faithful Pathways to Recovery" is a six-week series of messages, guest speakers, congregational testimonies, great music and readings which begins on Sunday, January 7 at St. Paul's, 201 Mt. Royal Avenue in Aberdeen. The series will be offered on Sundays at 9 am (traditional) and 10:30 am (contemporary) services. Guest speakers who work in substance use disorder, prevention, treatment, and recovery services will speak after some of the 10:30 am services.

Addiction has reached epidemic proportions in our nation and community and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aberdeen always wants to be helpful, so we are starting the new year with a worship series on this topic. With 64,000 people dying just last year of an opioid overdose and currently 79 who’ve died this year in Harford County, we know this is where God is leading us. I’ve had the privilege of helping people come to terms with addiction and I know there are people right now in our community who need Jesus’ healing, transformation and recovery.

At St. Paul's, we recognize that in order to save lives, help people and families recover, and end this epidemic, all aspects of the community have to be informed, pro-active, and work together. Using the free book The Recovery-Minded Church: Loving and Ministering to People with Addiction as our contemporary text, our congregation, guests, and community members will be provided with faith-based strategies to participate in the recovery movement. St. Paul’s dearly hopes you can attend, grow, learn and be blessed!
