Abingdon woman, child hospitalized after fall Tuesday

A woman and a child suffered traumatic injuries Tuesday morning after falling down the stairs of a residence in an Abingdon apartment community.

Andy Doyle, of the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company, said via text message that paramedics with Joppa-Magnolia responded to the 3600 block of Marpat Drive at 9:49 a.m., followed by a second paramedic unit at 10:04 a.m.

Personnel with the Abingdon Fire Company also provided assistance – a fire truck was on the scene as well, Doyle said.

The woman fell down the interior steps of the dwelling, and a 4-year-old child at the scene also had "minor injuries," Doyle said.

He noted information as to whether the child's injuries were related to the fall down the stairs was not available.

Doyle said the woman was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore and the child was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. Both were in stable condition, he said.
