Police end 4-hour standoff with robbery suspect in E. Baltimore

Baltimore Police closed off part of an East Baltimore neighborhood for hours Wednesday as they attempted to coax a suspect wanted in several robberies out of a home, police said.

Det. Jeremy Silbert, a police spokesman, said officers came to the 1400 block of N. Potomac St. at about 3 p.m. looking for a suspect wanted in "several commercial armed robberies" who was believed to be in a home in the block. Silbert said officials made contact with the man and were confident that he was inside.

The man was arrested at about 8 p.m., and no one was injured in the incident, police said. He was not identified.

The standoff blocked off several blocks of homes in the neighborhood, with residents waiting on the perimeter to return home. One 47-year-old woman who declined to give her name said her grandchild was stuck at a daycare within the perimeter.
