Police ID men found dead in Mount Vernon fire

Baltimore Police have identified the two men found dead in a Mount Vernon fire early Monday that police are investigating as a double-homicide.

George Scarborough, 48, and Ali Poushangi, 49, were found in the basement of an apartment building with a first floor eatery in the 800 block of Park Ave. at about 3:30 a.m. Monday, police said.

Police have not determined how exactly the men died - for example whether, they had been killed before the fire was set - but have classified their deaths as homicides pending the results of autopsies.

Police were reviewing surveillance camera footage that a witness said appears to show the victims being robbed before the fire is intentionally set at Da Vinci's, the first floor bistro. There were no updates Tuesday on the investigation, including whether police have developed any suspects or a motive.

Court records from previous cases indicate Scarborough lived in the 800 block of Park Ave., while Poushangi has previous listed addresses in Ellicott City.

According to Alex Cooper auctioneers, the building that caught fire had been sold at auction on June 14 for $305,000

Anyone with information was asked to call homicide detectives at 410-396-2100.
