Baltimore man indicted on federal charges related to drug overdose death

A federal grand jury has indicted a 23-year-old Baltimore man on charges that he provided drugs to a person who fatally overdosed in Prince George’s County last year.

Coron Demon Johnson, who authorities say is also known as “Savage,” was arrested on charges of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance resulting in death. The person, who was not identified, died from a heroin overdose on Aug. 11.

The indictment was unsealed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt, and announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Prince George’s County Police Department.

Johnson faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years, with a maximum possible sentence of life in prison.

Court records show Johnson was charged with attempted murder in Baltimore County in 2014. He pleaded guilty to armed robbery and received an eight-year suspended sentence. In that case, Johnson was one of three men charged with shooting someone in a robbery in Woodlawn, with one of the attackers firing a single shot.
