Louisiana man arrested at BWI with handgun

A 25-year-old Louisiana man was arrested at BWI Tuesday morning after an officer caught him at a security checkpoint with a loaded semi-automatic handgun in his carry-on bag.

Jamon Gerrell Stanton, of Baton Rouge, was found to have a 9 milimeter-caliber gun loaded with 12 bullets, according to Transportation Security Administration officials. The gun was spotted on the X-ray monitor.

TSA alerted the Maryland Transportation Authority Police, who confiscated the gun and arrested the man on weapons charges. Online court records for Stanton did not list an attorney.

There have been 23 firearms caught so far this year at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, according to the TSA. Last year, 24 guns were confiscated — a 50 percent increase from 2015. The number of firearms found at the region’s busiest airport has been on the rise for four years straight.
