Police identify Baltimore's 200th homicide victim this year

Baltimore Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in the city Wednesday.

Donnell Pierce, 23, was killed at about 4 p.m. the 1200 block of Greenmount Avenue, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death marked the 200th homicide in Baltimore this year — a record pace compared to previous years.

Additional information about a suspect in this incident was not immediately available.

Police are also investigating an overnight shooting that took place in the Southwest District.

Officers went to the area of Dana Street and Anthol Avenue on Thursday at about 1:40 a.m. for a report of gunshots , police said.

While searching the area, police were notified of a shooting victim who had arrived at an area hospital. The victim, a man, said he had been shot in the exact location where the reported discharge took place, police said.

The victim said he was walking in the area when he heard someone running behind him, causing him to run, police said. The suspect then began shooting at the victim, striking him in the lower right leg.

The victim is expected to make a full recovery, police said.
