The Maryland Municipal League named Abby Gruber, Westminster’s director of the Department of Recreation and Parks, its Municipal Employee of the Year.

MML, which represents 157 municipal governments in Maryland, presented the Roland B. Sweitzer Award, which “recognizes a high standard of professionalism in service to local government,” to Gruber on Monday, according to a press release from the city of Westminster.

Each municipality can nominate one employee, according to the municipal league.

“As director of Recreation and Parks for the city of Westminster, Ms. Gruber has made a positive impact on the quality of life in the city of Westminster, and we are a better community because of her efforts and contributions,” Barbara Matthews, Westminster City Administrator, said in her submission nominating Gruber.

MML presented Gruber with the award at its yearly summer conference in Ocean City.

Gruber joins the ranks of two other Westminster employees to have secured the honor. Jeff Glass, Westminster director of public works, and Tammy Palmer, the city’s director of finance and administrative services, were previously recognized with the award.
