The Carroll County Government on Monday morning launched a new website, “designed to be citizen-centered and responsive.” The web address has changed to www.carrollcountymd.gov.
The previous Board of Commissioners put $50,000 toward the website design, according to a briefing paper presented during a board meeting. The board contracted Coretegrity to design the new website and a new content management system.
The new home page features six buttons that can take users to portals where they can pay bills, get information on parks, see career opportunities, learn about boards and commissions, access meetings and subscribe to get updates from the county.
The new website also features an alert banner that can display vital information at the top of the web page. As of 11 a.m. Monday, for example, the banner displayed an alert that the county government would be closed on Good Friday.
“We looked at surveys from citizens and employees as well as old website analytics to determine the most in-demand pages,” said webmaster Chris Swam in a newsrelease.
During the Board of Commissioners Meeting the Thursday before the website launched, Swam said different elements of the website — images, press releases, links to important pages — could be easily changed and updated.
He said the same analytics tools that were used to design the new website and see where people go most often could be used in the future to update the website based on what pages visit most often and find most useful.
Unlike the old county government website, the new one is designed to be responsive, meaning the screen size and display will adjust automatically to whatever device someone is using — making the site easier to use on phones or tablets.
Each county department can update their own pages, which officials said they hope will allow for “timely posting of relevant information.”
“The enhanced site is attractive, and most importantly, very resident-focused and I know citizens are going to love this new tool,” Board President Stephen Wantz said in a statement.
