Taneytown man charged with assault

A Taneytown man was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 2 after he allegedly struck a woman.

Scott Andrew Vansickle Jr., 27, of the unit block of E. Baltimore Street, was charged with second-degree assault, intoxicated endangerment and disorderly conduct. A $7,000 bond was set initially, but he was held without bond following a Wednesday bail review, according to electronic court records.

According to the statement of probable cause, Westminster police responded to Webster Street after a witness reported that a man had struck a woman. Officers responded to the area and observed a man, later identified as Vansickle, grab a woman by the jaw and violently shake her head before they began arguing.

Vansickle’s breath smelled like alcohol and he said he had consumed vodka. He said the woman had spit on him, according to the statement.

The woman did not have visible injury and declined medical treatment, according to the statement.

Police placed Vansickle under arrest, at which time he became disorderly, according to the statement.

A court date is scheduled for Dec. 19.
