The Westminster Police Department responded to an alleged knife-point robbery attempt on he McDaniel College campus Monday, Nov. 5, but after sequential investigation determined that the reported incident did not occur.
The individual who reported the incident, a college employee, then recanted his statement, according to a news release from the Westminster Police Department.
“The college has taken administrative action against the employee, who has been both terminated and barred from campus,” said an email from McDaniel sent to the campus community.
The employee had told police and McDaniel Campus Safety that a young male had attempted to rob him at knife-point on the college’s campus.
Westminster police and McDaniel Campus Safety canvassed the area and conducted an investigation. Westminster police detectives drew the conclusion that the incident had not occurred. No further police action is anticipated.
“I am disappointed to learn that a member of the McDaniel community would make such a baseless claim that falsely identified a perpetrator, resulted in multiple McDaniel alerts, and caused unnecessary alarm among our community,” President Roger N. Casey was quoted as saying in the email from McDaniel.
“Despite the false accusation, the college appreciates the quick response of our Campus Safety officers and the investigative efforts of the Westminster Police Department.”
