Westminster man charged with assault, false imprisonment

Santos Miguel Ramirez, of Westminster, was charged with assault and false imprisonment following a Tuesday, Dec. 4, incident.

Ramirez, of the 100 block of W. Main Street, was charged with one count each of false imprisonment and second-degree assault. He continued to be held without bail following a Friday morning bail review, according to electronic court records.

According to the statement of charges, an officer of the Westminster Police Department responded to a residence Tuesday for a report of an assault.

An officer spoke with a woman who said she and Ramirez were in a verbal argument that turned physical. He pulled her hair and, when she attempted to leave, choked her and locked her in a room and refused to let her out, she said, according to the statement.

She banged on the walls until neighbors came to the residence and Ramirez let her out of the room. When she attempted to leave again, Ramirez struck her in the face, she said, according to the statement.

The officer observed injuries on her neck and wrist, according to the statement.

A court date is scheduled for Feb. 13.
