Property owner sustains minor burns in Harney barn fire

Firefighters and emergency medical services responded to a barn fire in the 4800 block of Harney Road on Friday morning, Sept. 7.

Harney Engine 111 was the first to arrive on scene. The structure was declared fully involved.

The property owner sustained minor burns to the hands. No other injuries were reported. The structures were used to store equipment and hay, so no livestock were housed there, Elaina Barry, Volunteer Emergency Services Association liaison said.

Between 15 and 20 units from Carroll County, Frederick County and Adams County, Pennsylvania, worked to control the fire. Harney volunteer fire company Chief Don Yingling Jr. commanded the scene.

According to a notice of investigation from the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the damage to the structure and contents was approximately $40,000 to each. The fire remains under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
