Vendors from at least eight states will be selling farm toys and vintage toys at the 31st annual Farm Toy Show & Auction on Saturday, Jan. 20. The show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carroll County Agriculture Center in Westminster.
“They’ll be selling everything you can imagine,” said organizer Tim Talbert. “If you can’t find it there, you’re not going to find it.”
Talbert said the event, which costs $3, benefits the Carroll County 4-H & FFA Fair. He said there will be a room of displays showing off people’s collections, plenty of vendors and food, including the fair board’s “famous chicken corn soup.”
“Everyone’s very sociable and you can ask them all kinds of questions,” Talbert said.
The show will include 1/64th, 1/32nd and 1/16th scale toys as well as pedal tractors, Talbert said. There will also be a parts vendor available to “help fix any toy you can imagine.”
Talbert said more than 250 items have been consigned for the 5:30 p.m. auction. One of the highlights will be one of 10 custom built Allis-Chalmers pedal tractors. The auction will also feature a variety of trucks and tractors from 1960s and ’70s.
“I think this hobby keeps the past alive for some people,” Talbert said. “You see tractors that you drove as a kid and different ones you just have to have. You’re always finding something new that you want.”
Vendor Tim Rock said collectors can find things for their own collections, and those who don’t collect can check out toys from 1960s until now.
“It’s always interesting,” Rock said. “You always see something new and you can learn a lot from other collectors.”
Rock said he grew up on a farm and he collects the tractors his dad had there.
“The toys keep me attached to the farm," Rock said. “For me, even the rough ones have value. I strip them down, repaint them and put new tires on, everything.”
Vendor Brennan Robertson plans to display some of his collection this year. A few of his tractors will be part of a planting scene with a hay field that’s been recently chopped.
“Whenever I do a display, I try to put in as much detail as I can to make it look as life like as I can,” Robertson said. “I want it to look like what a real farm looks like.”
Robertson will be on hand to sell some of his collection. He said everyone is there for different reasons.
“Some people look for older pieces, some people like the details, and some people just buy whatever catches their eye,” Robertson said. “It’s a big social event. Everybody is talking about their latest finds or something that’s coming out soon.”
