Carroll County proclaims November 'Hire a Veteran Month'

Carroll County Times

The Carroll Board of County Commissioners proclaimed November as “Hire a Veteran Month” this week.

The announcement comes on the heels of Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan signing a proclamation designating November as “Hire A Veteran Month.”

“Carroll is taking the lead, I believe, in the nation in dealing with veterans,” said Commissioner Richard Weaver, R-District 2, at Thursday’s commissioners meeting. “I'm really happy to see we’ve declared that it’s ‘Hire a Veteran Month.’ ”

Weaver also took a moment during the meeting to discuss the Veterans Advisory Council, as he is an ex-officio member.

“Now we have a lot of programs in Carroll County, but the Veterans Advisory Council is one that I think is unprecedented. I worked with them for the past three years. We have a lot that we offer veterans,” he said.

“And they’re pushing to get the Veterans Independence Project, where a veteran in Carroll County will have every service. Help with employment, help with almost anything. We even have a service office at BERC to help veterans, give them any assistance they need.”

He continued, “When we get this all put together, there will not be a homeless veteran in Carroll County. There will not be [a] veteran that needs help that won’t get it, and the project is just unbelievable.”
