Pasadena man dead in six-vehicle pileup in Anne Arundel

A man from Pasadena died on the scene of a six-vehicle pileup on Route 100 in Anne Arundel County Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The victim was identified as Scott Robert Johnston, 54. Police said officers were called to the scene of the crash, on eastbound Route 100 near Route 10 in Pasadena, at 3:15 p.m.

Six vehicles, including a 2005 Mack cement mixer from Daniel G. Schuster, Inc., were involved and four other drivers had minor injuries in the crash. Police said traffic had come to a halt but the cement mixer did not stop and struck one of the vehicles from behind, causing a chain reaction of crashes. Police said driver error on the part of the 70-year-old operator of the cement mixer was to blame, and said authorities were continuing to investigate.

Traffic was detoured until 10:30 p.m. as authorities investigated the collision.
