Victims identified in Frederick tractor trailer crash

Two people were killed on Route 75 in Frederick on Monday afternoon when a tractor trailer loaded with oranges overturned and collided with the pickup truck they were riding in, according to Maryland State Police.

Three people were also injured, one of them critically.

The deceased victims are identified as Hector N.C. Henriquez, 46, of Gaithersburg, Md., and Jose R. Diaz, 54, of Derwood, Md. Henriquez was the driver of a Ford F-450 truck. Diaz was a passenger in that truck and was sitting in the left rear seat. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

A second passenger in the Ford F-450 is identified as Jose C. Cedillo, 37, of Gaithersburg, Md. Cedillo was in the front passenger's seat when the crash occurred. He was transported by a Maryland State Police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with what were considered life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Watson Pierre, 34, of Sunrise, Fla., has been charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide and one count of failing to control speed to avoid a collision, police said. How fast he was traveling in the 30 mph zone is still under investigation, police said.

Pierre was also flown to Shock Trauma, where he was treated and released late Monday. He was arrested upon leaving the hospital and remains incarcerated at the Frederick County Detention Center, police said.

A passenger in the tractor trailer, identified as Erochenel Bernadin, 42, of Deerfield Beach, Fla., was treated for minor injuries and released Mondy from Frederick Memorial Hospital.

The 2 p.m. accident at Route 75 and Ed McClain Road, south of Libertytown, closed the highway between Route 144 and Route 26 for hours as crash investigators worked.

Police believe the tractor trailer was traveling north when it "rounded a sharp curve" at Ed McClain Road and overturned into southbound lanes, striking the pickup truck.

The investigation into the accident continued.
