Gov. Larry Hogan orders Maryland flag at half-staff for Sen. John McCain

Gov. Larry Hogan has ordered the Maryland State Flag to be lowered to half-staff in honor of the late Sen. John McCain.

McCain, a 1958 Naval Academy graduate, died Saturday at the age of 81 after battling brain cancer. McCain will be buried at the Naval Academy in Annapolis.

According to the Secretary of State’s website, the Maryland State Flag will return to full-staff at sunset on the interment date, which has not yet been announced. The U.S. flag will return to full-staff at sunset Sunday.

McCain “will forever remain one of the most valiant heroes our country has ever known. He has long stood as a shining example of doing the right thing and standing up for his principles. His legacy is one of selfless service, grit, and determination,” the alert on the state’s website says.
