Mega Millions jackpot swells to $548 million, third largest in history

The Baltimore Sun

Those hoping for a shot at becoming a hundred-millionaire have until Friday to buy a ticket for the $548 million Mega Millions jackpot, the third largest prize in history.

Since July, there have been 22 consecutive drawings that failed to match all six numbers to a ticket, leading the jackpot to climb in value rank, according to a Mega Millions news release.

The largest jackpot to date was $656 million in 2012, shared by three individuals in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland, the release states.

In July, an office pool of 11 colleagues received the largest prize of $543 million ever won by a single ticket, according to the release.
