Police: Davidsonville man hit bicyclist, threw tire into woods, drove off

A Davidsonville man is charged with hitting a bicyclist, throwing a bike tire into the woods and driving off.

A 61-year-old motorist was charged with hitting a bicyclist in Davidsonville on Saturday, then assaulting him, throwing one of his bike tires into the woods and driving away, Anne Arundel County police said.

Michael John Moody, of the 2700 block of Malvern Hill Court, faces second-degree assault and several traffic charges, including leaving the scene of an accident and reckless and neglegent driving.

Moody was driving a tan SUV behind the 59-year-old cyclist, headed south on St. George Barber Road near Governors Bridge Road just before 11 a.m., police said.

The vehicle drew closer, prompting the cyclist to wave Moody to pass, but as they approached a curve, the cyclist moved into the middle of the road, police said.

Moody tried to pass the cyclist on the left side of the road and they collided, knocking the cyclist to the ground, police said. Moody allegedly assaulted the cyclist and threw the tire, before leaving.

The cyclist, whom police did not identify, was taken to a hospital with a broken arm and rib, as well as an injured leg, police said. He was listed in stable condition.

Moody was arrested and posted a $25,000 bail, court records show. He declined to comment when contacted Saturday night.
