An off-duty Baltimore City police officer shot a man in the arm after he says he was attacked by him and another man early Saturday morning.

The officer, who has not yet been identified, had just left work and was driving along the 3400 block of Red Rose Farm Road in Middle River around 12:30 a.m. when one of two men who were walking along the road damaged the mirror on his car, police said. The two men were intoxicated, according to police.

The officer stopped to speak with the men and was "attacked" by them, and he used a Taser to attempt to defend himself, police said. The Taser did not stop them and the officer shot one of the men in the arm with his gun. The officer suffered minor injuries, police said.

The man who was shot was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to survive. The second man was interviewed and released by police. Charges are pending in the case.

Police did not provide more information on whether the officer used his department-issued weapons or elaborate on how he was attacked or injured.
