Catonsville Cooperative Market's Skill Share Festival adds vendors

The Catonsville Cooperative Market is increasing the number of food vendors at its annual Skill Share Festival this year, giving community members the opportunity to become a co-op member for the day, organizers said.

Local vendors such as Catonsville Gardens and Maya Herbals will be selling goods at the festival from noon to 4 p.m. April 16. The event will be held outdoors at United Immanuel Church of Christ, 1905 Edmondson Ave.

The added dimension gives visitors a chance to be part of the cooperative for a day, co-op board member Jennifer Michael said.

The cooperative market launched in 2011 with the goal of creating a community grocery store with organic and local options. It currently runs as an online buying market, with a year-round biweekly produce market. The goal is to open a store, and the cooperative is trying to gain members to reach that goal.

This year's skills at the festival include beekeeping, sustainable agriculture, composting and fermentation. It also will feature mini-sessions on raising chickens, making homemade dog treats and using essential oils.

Children's yoga and crafting activities will also take place at the festival. The Greek on the Street food truck will be selling lunch.

Tickets to the festival are $10 for adults, free for children.
