Pair charged in jewelry store heists arrested at Catonsville hotel room

After nearly two months on the run, a couple wanted in jewelry store heists around Baltimore County and several states as far as South Carolina, was arrested at a hotel room off U.S. 40 in Catonsville Monday, police said.

Robert Antoine Weathers, 53, and Robin Tracy Nelson, 50, are charged in multiple thefts at local jewelry and liquor stores around Baltimore County, including Bijoux Jewels in May, police said.

On Wednesday, police identified a third suspect in the Bijoux as Stanley William Lester Gwynn of Elkridge. He is free on $100,000 bail.

A fourth woman is being sought by police and will be charged, the department said. According to charging documents, Gwynn and Theresa Diane Roberts, distracted employees at Bijoux. Roberts asked to see "butterfly" items, the document said, while Weathers and Nelson went to an unlocked office, where Weathers took items from the safe and Nelson acted as a lookout, the document said.

Weathers and Nelson are wanted for a similar theft at store in Columbia, S.C., where police said more than $100,000 in diamonds were taken from a jewelry store.

County police spokesman Cpl. John Wachter said a tip led investigators to their hotel room at the Comfort Inn just inside the Beltway.

The hotel manager, Kenny Shrestha, said police came around 9:30 a.m. and the couple was arrested without incident.

"They were here for a couple of days," and paid in cash, he said. They were scheduled to check out that morning, he said. They only had a few items with them.

Police have also charged the couple for taking more than $46,000 worth of jewelry from Ricardo's Gems and Jewelry store in Lutherville on Dec. 31 and more than $2,000 from Kaylah Designs in Pikesville on September 9.

Weathers faces additional charges for a Jan. 16 robbery at the North Plaza Liquors in Parkville.

Both are being held at the county detention center on $450,000 bail.
