Parkville man shot by police after wife calls for help

A Parkville man whose wife feared was suicidal was shot on his property Saturday night by Baltimore County police after firing his gun, police said.

The wife had called police just before 10:45 p.m. to ask for help, saying her husband — identified by police as Michael Tindall Jr., 39 — was suicidal and had a gun. After officers arrived at the 2900 block of Manns Avenue, Tindall came outside with the handgun and did not drop it as ordered, police said.

He and one of the officers each fired. Tindall was hit, but the officer was not, police said.

Police said Tindall is in critical condition at a hospital they did not identify. The officer who shot him, an 18-year veteran of the department, was also not identified. That officer was put on administrative leave, following the county's policy on police-involved shootings.
