Rosedale man convicted in 2012 homicide

A Baltimore County jury on Thursday convicted a Rosedale man of stabbing another man, and leaving his body in a burning car.

Prosecutors said Lennell Earl Ellis, 34, fatally stabbed Darryl Maurice Augustus, II in a Nottingham apartment and, with the help from others, placed the body in a car and set it on fire. Firefighters found the body in the car at the intersection of Bay Road and Mitchell Avenue in Essex on May 6, 2012.

Prosecutors said Augustus' body was burned beyond recognition and was identified by dental records. An autopsy determined the cause of death was the result of multiple stab wounds.

Police said previously that Augustus, 21, had been in Nottingham visiting a woman with whom Ellis had been "romantically involved."

Ellis was found guilty of second-degree murder, arson and conspiracy to commit second-degree arson and will be sentenced on May 6.
