Death of woman found in burned car may have been accident

The death of a woman found in a burned car on Thanksgiving may have been accidental, Baltimore County police said Friday.

County police said they received a call about 10:55 p.m. Wednesday night reporting that the woman, who had left her home in the 1300 block of Phoenix Road that evening to go to a local store, was missing.

After a search of the area that nigh was unsuccessful, police surveyed the area by helicopter and spotted a burned car off the road in that same block. When police reached the scene, they found the body of a woman in a Toyota Camry that apparently went off the road, over a hill and down an embankment, where it struck several trees and caught fire with the victim trapped inside.

The body was taken to the medical examiner's office in Baltimore, where police were awaiting a positive identification. County police Lt. Robert McCullough said that while the death was classified as suspicious, "right now it looks like it's purely accidental."
