The body of a missing boater in Middle River was found Sunday night, Maryland Natural Resources Police said.
The boater, Matthew Paul Shonko, 34, was on a boat with a friend when he fell overboard without a life jacket near Galloway Creek at about 10:16 p.m. Friday night, police spokeswoman Candy Thomson said.
Natural Resources Police and Baltimore Fire marine units spent Friday night, Saturday and Sunday using side-scan SONAR and searching the surface and shorelines before Shonko's body was recovered, Thomson said.
He will be taken to the medical examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
July is traditionally the state's most deadly month for people on the water. Shonko's death was the ninth water death in Maryland this year, compared to 12 all of last year.
Three people died in the span of 24 hours last weekend, and 10 people were injured Saturday, when a boat caught fire at a fueling dock at Solomons Island Thomson said.
