Police identify man killed after he exited his car on Baltimore Beltway

Maryland State Police have identified the victim of a fatal crash on the Baltimore Beltway in which a man exited his 2018 Nissan and was struck by an oncoming tractor trailer.

The victim was identified as Michael C. Dent, 38, of Catonsville, according to police.

Police say the accident took place Wednesday evening on the outer loop of Interstate 695 after Dent’s Nissan hit the back of another car on the ramp from Security Boulevard in the Woodlawn area.

Police said that according to witnesses, Dent then exited his Nissan into a lane on I-695 and was struck by a tractor trailer. Dent’s unoccupied car then continued for a quarter of a mile before it stopped against the side jersey barrier, according to police.

Police originally reported that witnesses said Dent jumped out of his vehicle, but police have since said they are still investigating how he ended up outside of his vehicle.

Court records show Dent was guilty of several traffic infractions in recent years including for not wearing his seatbelt, speeding and unsafe passing to the right of a vehicle.

No other injuries were reported, including occupants of the original car that was struck.
