Hundreds lose water service after Baltimore water main breaks

Hundreds of customers lost water service in the Baltimore area Friday after two separate water main issues, officials said.

A 12-inch main in the 300 block of Kenwood Ave. in East Baltimore was shut off for repairs Thursday night, with about 200 to 300 customers and two hydrants affected, city department of public works officials said.

A 16-inch main at Back River Neck Road and Holly Neck Road in Essex also broke early Friday morning, and about 500 customers and Essex Skypark Airport were affected. Southbound Holly Neck Road was closed for the repairs and there was no time estimate for a fix.

Another broken water main in the region cut water pressure to locations in Catonsville Thursday, but officials said it has been repaired. The University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Catonsville High School, Catonsville Center for Alternative Studies and Western School of Technology were closed because there was no water or low water pressure Thursday.
