More than 30 new citizens sworn in during ceremony

Thirty-six new citizens were sworn in during a ceremony Friday at the Baltimore offices of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, an event hosted by the American Legion Auxiliary.

Nancy Brown-Park, the national president of the women's veterans organization, traveled from California to attend the ceremony and said the new citizens came from a wide variety of countries.

For some, naturalization was a process years in the making. "I met one man who has been here for 14 years — he's a teacher. He finally became a citizen and said, 'Next year, I'm going to run for office,' " Brown-Park said.
