Orioles slugger Chris Davis gets his own ice cream flavor

As Baltimore Oriole Chris Davis continues his torrid home-run pace, a Baltimore ice cream parlor decided to commemorate the Major League Baseball statistical leader with something cool:

An ice cream flavor named in his honor.

The Charmery, a Hampden ice cream seller, announced that it has created the "Crunch Davis," a play off the first baseman's "Crush Davis" nickname, which features a sweet cream base topped by orange sprinkles and pieces of Nestle Crunch bars. The flavor will debut on Labor Day.

"Go O's!" said an emailed release from the restaurant.

Davis blasted his 47th home run on Wednesday, breaking a tie for third on the Oriole franchise's all-time single season list for home runs. He now trails only Brady Anderson, who hit 50 homes in 1996, and Frank Robinson, who blasted 49 in 1966, for the franchise's best mark.

With his own ice cream, Davis joins such sports greats as Arnold Palmer, who have something sweet named after them. Although Baby Ruth candy bars appear to be named after another Baltimore home-run king — Babe Ruth — the candy's originator denied that claim and various historical articles have debated the origin of the candy bar's name over the years.
