Fire in NW Balto. sends one resident to hospital

A Baltimore City resident is being treated at the Bayview Burn Center after suffering injuries in a one-alarm house fire Tuesday morning.

According to Baltimore City Fire Department Chief Kevin Cartwright, crews responded to a call at 5:41 a.m. about a fire in a three-story occupied wood frame dwelling in the 5000 block of Belleville Avenue near Milford Avenue in northwest Baltimore.

Cartwright said two people from inside the house suffered burn injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics; one was transported to Bayview for additional evaluation and treatment. Cartwright said he did not have information about the victims. He said no firefighters were injured battling the blaze.

Cartwright said the fire was evident on the first, second and third floors of the house and was contained to the one dwelling. He said the fire was essentially under control but crews were still working to put out "hot spots" as of 6:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, he added.
