A man was shot by police Saturday night in north Baltimore after authorities said he pointed a gun at officers.
Shortly after 10 p.m., uniformed officers from the police department's Violent Crime Impact Section confronted the man in the 400 block of E. Lorraine Avenue in Harwood, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.
As the officers approached him, the man forced his way into a dwelling, he said. The officers followed him, and the man pointed a semi-automatic handgun at them.
At least one officer shot the man, striking him below the waist, Guglielmi said. The man, who was not identified, was in critical condition at the Johns Hopkins Hospital on Saturday night.
No officers were injured.
Homicide detectives are investigating, which is routine in all police-involved shootings, Guglielmi said.
