Baltimore officer accused of running heroin ring asks for detention hearing

Baltimore Police Officer Daniel Redd, who was indicted last month on heroin conspiracy and gun charges, is looking for a way out of jail pending his trial.

His attorney filed court papers Monday in Baltimore U.S. District Court asking for a detention hearing "to consider whether conditions of release can be fashioned that will reasonably assure his appearance when required and the safety of the community."

Redd temporarily agreed to incarceration after his initial arrest on July 19. A hearing has been set for Thursday afternoon.
