Homicide detectives were investigating the deaths of two men who were shot in separate incidents over the weekend, Baltimore police said Monday.
The first occurred about 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 4800 block of Liberty Heights Ave., in Northwest Baltimore's Howard Park neighborhood. Police said the victim, 18-year-old Lamont Mays Ramie, of the 3500 block of Milford Mill Road, was shot in the upper torso and initially was responsive.
But his condition deteriorated, and he was pronounced dead at Sinai Hospital about 6:45 p.m. Sunday, according to Anthony Guglielmi, the department's chief spokesman.
About midnight Sunday, police were called to the 1200 block of Bayard St. in South Baltimore's Pigtown neighborhood for a report of a discharging weapon and discovered a 31-year-old man with gunshot wounds, Guglielmi said. Police learned that the victim had been in a restaurant in the 1400 block of Washington Blvd. when he left and began walking toward his vehicle.
A man then came running through the 1100 block of Bayard St., holding a gun, and chased the victim around a corner and shot him multiple times, Guglielmi said. Police did not identify the victim pending notification of family members.
The killings were the 53rd and 54th of the year, compared with 76 at this time last year, a decline of about 29 percent.
