Catholic Charities' Esperanza Center remains closed because of fire damage

Catholic Charities’ Esperanza Center is closed after a fire in a nearby building caused extensive damage in the 400 block of S. Broadway.

The nonprofit expects repairs at the Fells Point center — which offers English language classes, immigration services, legal help, doctor appointments and dental visits — to take months. Staff is searching for a temporary location. No date has been set to reopen the center.

The center was damaged when a fire broke out Friday morning at Budeke's Paints. Fire officials said the investigation is still underway.

Call 667-600-2900 for information on the center or go to cc-md.org. Updates will also be posted on the organization’s Facebook page.
