Man shot in head in West Baltimore

A man was shot in the head in West Baltimore on Friday.

A man was shot in the head outside a West Baltimore deli, Baltimore police said.

The shooting took place at 11:55 a.m. in the Rosemont Homeowners/Tenants neighborhood. The victim's name, age and condition were not released. Crime tape blocked off the short 600 block of Whitmore Ave., where detectives examined areas along a brick wall by the entrance to a defunct barber shop.

A corner store surveillance camera captured a group of people running after the shooting, and detectives had viewed it while they canvassed the intersection of Westmore St. and Edmondson Ave., store operators said.

Baltimore Homicide detectives — called to fatal shootings and incidents where police believe victims may have suffered un-survivable injuries — had been called to the scene, but a police spokeswoman said later that the seriousness of the victim's injuries was downgraded. Detectives from the Western District police station are now investigating the shooting.
