Rep. Elijah E. Cummings is expected to appear at a news conference Tuesday at mayoral candidate and state Sen. Catherine E. Pugh's campaign headquarters.

The popular Baltimore congressman has yet to offer his endorsement to any of the candidates looking to replace Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who is not seeking re-election.

Pugh, 66, is one of 13 Democrats seeking the party's nomination in the April 26 primary.

The news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Pugh's headquarters in Mid-Town Belvedere.

Pugh's campaign has not offered details on the subject of Tuesday's announcement.

Cummings, 65, who had been weighing whether to run for U.S. Senate, is seeking re-election to the House. He has served in Congress for 11 terms.

His popularity rose last year as a result of his public response to the unrest last April and his defense of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton during a lengthy congressional hearing on her role in the 2012 attacks on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi.

Spokesmen for Pugh and Cummings did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
