Advocates for care

The Ombudsman Program of the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities seeks volunteers to assist in protecting the rights and promoting the well-being of residents in long-term care facilities, including nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Captain Avery Museum

Volunteers are needed to serve as docents and escort visitors through the museum from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays and at special functions. On occasion, they would be dressed in a costume typical of the 1860s. Training is provided. Information: 410-867-4486.

Environmental center

Volunteers are needed to assist in the education department of the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center and with activities such as leading field trips and canoe excursions, helping in classrooms, and maintaining aquariums and gardens. No specific experience is required, and appropriate training will be provided. First Sunday Arts Festival

Volunteers are needed to help on four shifts between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. each Sunday through October with set-up and assisting the coordinator and exhibitors, musicians and performers. Information: Julie Scott at 410-263-4012 or email her at juscott10@gmail.com.

Patapsco Valley State Park

Box of Rain

Volunteers are needed to act as mentors for the Box of Rain organization's Big Sailor/Little Sailor Program and to serve as sailing instructors.
