Pressed flowers

The Meade Area Garden Club will hold a class on the art of pressed flowers from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Jessup Community Hall, 2920 Jessup Road. Mayoral forum

The League of Women Voters will host a candidates forum for mayor of Annapolis from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 9 at Congregation Kneseth Israel, 1125 Spa Road in Annapolis. The candidates will discuss issues and take questions from the audience. Moderator will be Steve Gunn, editor of The Capital newspaper. Information:

Haunted house

The Bowie Baysox and Tulip Gulch Productions will open the gates to the Nightmares Haunted House on Oct. 4 at Prince George's Stadium. This new attraction runs Fridays and Saturdays (and Halloween) through Nov. 2. The show features more than 30 actors and takes about 20 minutes to walk through. The haunted house is rated PG-13; parental discretion is strongly advised. The show takes place indoors, and all dates are open — rain or shine. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., and tours run from sundown to 11 p.m. Tickets are $15 when ordered online in advance, $17 at the door. Special rates available for groups of 10 or more that order in advance. Museum raffle

The Captain Salem Avery House Museum's 25th annual fundraising raffle is underway. The top prize is $5,000, and tickets are $5 each. The winning ticket will be drawn at the West River Heritage Day Oyster Festival at 5 p.m. Oct. 20 at the museum, 1418 E. West Shady Side Road in Shady Side. Child care grants

If you are a grandparent or relative, 55 or older, and the primary caregiver for a child 18 or younger, you may be eligible for a grant program offered by the National Family Caregiver Support Program. Operation Paperback

This nonprofit organization collects used books nationwide and sends them to U.S. troops deployed overseas. Since 1999, more than 1 million books have been shipped to military personnel around the world. Organizing the effort in this area is Sandy Marron of Annapolis.
